So I have a nice slab of oak here. Now what?
I took a series of photos trying to keep them as perpendicular as possible, and overlapping each one.
Then using some photo stitching software, that I normally use for panoramas, I pieced them together.

Now, I could expand it on the computer and try to count the rings.

After a slight modification to remove counting the bark. I came up with a total of 165 (+/- something). I don’t know how fast an oak grows in the woods, but assume to get to a height of 20′ it takes 10 (?) years. So that can be added back on.
Interesting.
