After taking down the large Oak in Secrest, cleaning the trail, making a seat, I had a nice slab of the oak left.
Hate to see this used as firewood. How about cleaning it up a little?
I got out the plane, smoothed it down, took it to the jointer and cleaned up the bottom edge.
Then spent some time with the sander and got it pretty smooth.
Maybe when it gets good and dry now, I will put some nice shiny varnish on it so it looks nice. You can see that it was a good 24″ in diameter where I took this slab from, and that point was a least 20′ from the base.
How long did it take for this huge old oak to grow? What has happened to the world while it was growing?
Definitely something to ponder over.
