SMLC Conservancy Farm – Nature Photos and Videos

A tour of the area.

"The Farm House" The farm house is now used for the Conservancy office. Stop by and visit sometime.

"The Milk House" Still has the old milk cooler, where fresh warm milk from the dairy cows was taken to be chilled.

"The Homestead" The original farm house. I have heard a family of eight slept here. Later it appears to have been turned into a chicken coop.

"The big red barn" It still has hay, the gardeners keep their supplies here, and other assorted odds and ends. Home to a colony of Brown Bats that are counted by volunteers every year.

"The Corn Crib" A place to keep the corn dry and ready to be used.

"The Carriage House" The old wagons and other equipment was kept here. Large sliding doors on the front allowed for easy access.

"The Sugar Shack" (Hiding behind the large silo) The shack has a tin roof and smoke stack for safety! There must have been a sugar grove somewhere for gathering maple sap to be boiled down.

"The Community Organic Gardens" Gardeners from the area make use of plots here to raise organic produce.

"The Machine Shop / Tack House" The other end of the Milk House has some old equipment for maintaining farm equipment and tack for the livestock.

"The Conservancy Farm Trail" Go North through the gardens, when you get to the woods, turn left and follow the trail all the way to Jack R Smiley Nature Preserve on Cherry Hill Road! A nice walk! (Look close and you can see a hiker enjoying the trail right now!)

The Conservancy Farm has a number of Blue Bird houses scattered around. A few could use a volunteer care taker! If someone wanted to do a quick “Flip” on them I am sure the birds would appreciate a clean, warm, secure house!
